Birds on the Island of Kauai

On the island of Kauai (and the other Hawaiian islands) there are lots of different birds. But on Kauai, there is a nesting ground for some interesting birds. The Blue and Red Footed Booby as well as the Albatross nest at the Kilauea Lighthouse.

Of course, there are other birds there as well. One of the most “prolific” is the well known, great “Chicken” or “Yard Bird” as some call it. There are “wild” chickens running loose all over the island of Kauai. It seems that during Hurricane Iniki in 1992, many chicken coops housing fighting cocks were destroyed and the chickens were freed. Now, they live on the island and in talking to some of the locals, there is never a shortage for these birds.
