Wettest in the World….Almost
If you take the road up to Waimea Canyon….a very beautiful place, and then you keep going, you will end up at Wai’ Ale’ Ale lookout/peak. It is on top of the Na Pali Coast. And, it is listed as the second wettest place on earth (some say it’s the wettest) with about 460 inches of rain per year. Their wettest year was over 650 inches. According to the records, there is a mountain in India that is wetter on average at 687 inches per year. First off, either way, that’s a lot of rain. Second, I don’t know about the place in India, but the view from the top of this mountain is just amazing. You are looking down from the rugged terrain of the Na Pali coast over the beautiful, blue Pacific.
Now, the thing that was a little surprising to me was that it was at 5100 feet elevation and the temperature was down to the upper 40’s with a wind. It was cold up there in Hawaii…. Linda and Lisa didn’t even want to get out of the car.
Anyway, it’s a beautiful place, the views are amazing and there is hiking if you want to and have time. If you’re ever on Kauai, take the time to make the drive.
